![]() Take Osterlind's Number Opener as an example. In order to keep with this, I must drop many effects that I would like to do. Effects must fit into what my character is "able" to do, and then I have to create a performance that goes along with my character. Then I need to carefully sift through effects. I have to know why I am doing this, the reasons I am able to do these things, how I came to the realisation that I can do them, and so on and so forth, et cetera. In order to effectively do that, I have to create a character that I can live with. What I realised is that I got into this game because it is a great opportunity to perform fascinating theatre. So I then sat down and questioned what it was I wanted to do and how I could do that. That's not to say the effects weren't good or that they didn't garner good reactions. I came to see that my effects, even though they were simple and direct, were more magic tricks. When I first started mentalism, I noticed that I was missing something important. Watch his first 3 vids and you'll see his perfection which I believe to be his major show repetuare. Rather than making a loosely tied together series of effects: Each effects seems to have been crafted for his particular venue. Or so it seems from the outside looking in. Now Osterlind is working probably for more private corporations, I too wonder how much he works for general audience (perhaps a lot of prior contacts made in his former sales life) since his names not on speakers bureau websites and booking agents whom I work for don't have him on speed dial as they do I, Senehi, Banny, and even Sergov, and he crafts the performance for that venue. His number opener where you read minds of several guests in an audience is simply amazing! What else says you hired a winner more then that effect! You are now established at what you claim to do. Wasn't it Annemann who was on 24/7? How about Osterlind since I already mentioned him above. In my humble opinion a paranormalist would get more mileage from reading a mind and selling the fact that he can read lotto numbers from minds (perhaps not from time) then he would from linking a few rings. ![]() And also the later bashing of Osterlinds number opener from his series. BUT! But: I would question the rings thing. I'll give him that his acting and presentation of this image is flawless. ![]() He seems to be an expert at everything paranormal. Like Jim/Jack or not, he presents himself (ONLINE) as a grandiose paranormalist. And if the later: Shouldn't you do the same with your personae and style of effects? In mentalism: Do you work out effects based on moves and secrets? Or do you work on the over all presentation of the effect and then work out the bits. I guess my post sparked his mind and his book sparked me down a train of thought. ![]() from a friend who is writing a book on effective mentalism. ![]()
